Early but long fall sunsets,

the first frost on Park Crescent,

and the cold waters of Invista Bay.

"There is water at the bottom of the ocean

Trees are the seaweed of the atmosphere...

...on the ocean floor old weeds decay...

...and soft grasses wave in the cold currents.

"I like it when a flower or little tuft of grass grows through a crack in the concrete.  It's so fuckin' heroic."  - George Carlin

Milk crates leaning against the old house beside Svendson Brothers' parking lot.  Down at the water the branches are bared for the winter gales:

At the water treatment plant construction site they're starting to smooth the rough edges and roll out the green carpets.  After all the heavy lifting it's impressive to see the equipment drivers sculpt the final touches:

Tuesday, 10 November 2015

Suddenly the leaves are almost all gone, and every bit of woodland has changed to what seems like stasis.  The breeze sounds different.

Every day the field between Sunny Acres Rd and the Invista plant changes a little:

Monday, 2 November 2015

A windy afternoon in my favourite time of year, just walking and looking, not thinking about much, sounds of waving grasses and the smell of the lake in the gusts.

Autumn grasses in the field by Sunny Acres Road.  On the way to a quiet moment at Paterson Pt, where the lake level is well down, swimmers gone for the year:

Thursday, 8 October 2015

First wet day in a long while, dogs waiting while I photographed the road, then over to Sunny Acres Rd and the big field, Invista looming in the background:

There's a lot of ticks out there this time of year, but it's still better than road walking all the time.

Friday, 18 September 2015

On a walk down to Paterson Point, with dogs and sons, past Barry's hedge...

...to the lake.  Trees and rocks at the waters edge...

...and farther along at Paterson Pt the swimmers are cooling themselves in the heat-softened water:

Today I took the car in for rustproofing, and while waiting I explored the surprisingly extensive scrubby woodlands between Sydenham Rd and Sir John A.  The K&P Trail cuts through nearby, but there are a number of 4-wheeler tracks leading off in various places.  This area, completely surrounded by buildings and the 401, has some quite isolated places:

with here and there small signs of human effort:

Someone's hideout, a sun-dappled little vale, constant whine of the 401:

Farther on are older things more decayed, perhaps from a different time altogether:

HMCS Haida and, below, one of her deck guns:

Back at Sheffield Lake the rocks remain, as they have done for longer than I can imagine...

Saturday, 29 August 2015

About this time of summer vegetation has reached its fullest growth, before the long dry spells start to take the lushness out of things.  On these hot days I go and stand in the shallow water at Paterson Point while the boys swim:

The water levels are down for the end of summer, up at Sheffield Lake the water's down too, waiting for the blustery days of fall...

Monday, 24 August 2015

A cool, evening walk exploring the old rail bed behind the Riocan Centre.  A strangely wild and abandoned place right in the middle of the city.  There is some foot traffic, though; someone left their clean socks behind...

Wednesday, 12 August 2015

Queen Ann's Lace is everywhere in bloom, especially in the breezy fields by Sunny Acres Rd:

And the fine grasses are home to small creatures which our dogs pursue ferociously:

Tuesday, 11 August 2015

There's a long, narrow green space beside Taylor Kidd Blvd, near Old Colony Rd, and this time of year it's very lush, with huge willows growing beside the stream.  Hot, still, and humid, it's another world.

Air Conditioner

Poking around the Frontenac Mall, waiting for a kid at a Putt'n'Blast birthday party again.  I do like exploring behind malls, there's always something interesting:

These older models seem very small compared to the current ones.  Still not sure what persuades people to put mags on a work truck, but I don't deny they look great!  Over on the Invista grounds the willows have grown huge:

Sunday, 2 August 2015

I do like the expansive view from Paterson Park out over the lake, especially on a cloudy day.  On Sunny days the park's trees are quite fine as well:

At the water purification plant construction site nearby they seem to be finished with the heavy earth moving-
